Golden Chase Puppy Auction Returns Bigger and Better for 2027
Queensland’s premier greyhound breeding initiative is back with the annual Golden Chase Puppy Auction set to return in 2027, revitalised with increased prizemoney and an exciting new format.
Originally a signature event at the Ipswich track, the 2027 auction will be the first held at The Q, with the series reimagined as the Golden Chase Puppy Auction.
The 2027 auction will again showcase the best young greyhound talent from across the nation, with nominations open for pups whelped between 1 March and 31 July 2026. Importantly, the event will operate as an auction-only model with no breeder buy-ins.
The Golden Chase will culminate in two feature finals in 2028, delivering significant prizemoney across both sprint and distance formats:
- Q1 Final – 390m (March/April 2028) – $75,000
- Q2 Final – 520m (September 2028) – $150,000
The Q2 final will also include a breeder incentive, with a $10,000 bonus to the winner’s breeder and $500 to all other finalists.
CEO of Queensland Greyhound Racing Club, Ashley Baker, said the return of the series was a major boost for the industry.
“It’s exciting to see the auction series back. The Golden Chase Puppy Auction is a great initiative for breeding in Queensland and for industry participants across the country to get involved” Baker said.
“By increasing prizemoney and introducing a refreshed format we are creating stronger incentives for breeders, owners and trainers to be involved. This exciting new format opens up the world of greyhound ownership to all and we are unashamedly aiming to attract new owners and investors to our industry, all while showcasing the quality of greyhound racing in this state.”
The Golden Chase is Queensland’s only dedicated greyhound puppy auction and is expected to attract strong interest from across the industry. Working alongside the GRNSW Puppy Auction Series, the timing of Queensland’s Golden Chase Auction Series gives breeders all around the country year-round access to a greyhound auction opportunity.
